Is my child on meth?
Is my child on meth? | Source

It is not something any parent wants to deal with. Is my child using meth? Here are a few symptoms you may not know about.

I know meth well. I have seen first hand what it does to the people you love. I have seen what it does to their babies and their parents. Act now before your teenagers become adults. It is easier to control a child than a legal adult.

There are so many articles on the Internet about meth and its symptoms. Please, read as much as you can so you can hopefully stop the addiction before it even starts.

The meth addiction usually starts out and most parents never notice the change, at first. Meth is easy to come by, even for your funds-challenged teen. The people that give it to your kids want nothing more than to get them hooked.

There are many reasons for this, usually it is so they can bring a new person into their circle. Fresh meat is very appealing to the drug-addicted.

Where men are concerned, they often get young girls addicted to meth because they know, more often than not, an addicted girl will eventually give them her body for her next fix. This is disgusting but true. Even your good little girl, once addicted to meth, is in danger of prostituting herself for meth. Boys can do the same thing.

Signs of Meth Use:

Change in behavior: The change can be as simple as an explosion of energy followed eventually by the need to sleep. I have seen meth users "tweaking", they are bustling with energy and often have strange ideas they think can come true.

If your teenager is talking about possible ways to make a car fly, even if they seem to be able to rationalize it as possible, this is a dangerous sign. These ideas I have noticed, come with later meth use. Meth screws up the brain and causes all sorts of hallucinations and odd talk.

Sometimes the signs are vague, not as noticeable.

Odd Physical Tendencies: Notice your child scratching at their arms and other areas of the bodies? Are they rubbing or flicking their nose often? Clearing their throats and always have a drink handy? Many meth uses feel like they have something in their throats and they seem to always try to clear it out. Meth can cause people to feel like their bodies are infested with bugs or demons.

They will often, especially as the addiction progresses, try and scratch these hallucinations. Picking at scabs and not allowing wounds to heal is another sign. I know many meth addicts that try and remove their eyebrows and eyelashes. If your child starts doing stuff like this, it is not normal. It doesn't always mean they are on meth, it could be a mental disorder.

Fear of the Police: The fear they are being watched by the police or federals is a pretty obvious signs of something amiss. It might be meth or something else.

Talking about Demons: A sudden tendency to talk about morbid things like demon possession and death, these are good signs of meth use. A woman I have known my entire life got addicted to meth. She would talk to me about the little demons outside her window, running around the woods. She also spoke about falling asleep and having someone poke her with needles. There was no one, it was all in her meth-fried brain. Again she would talk about the feds in the woods, watching her every move. It was a very sad time, to see this person go down so quickly.

Tendency to Stare: Not at you, but past you or into the distance. It is as if they are in their own world.

Weight Loss and Breakouts: This doesn't always happen. Some people retain fat while using meth. Once you have seen a skinny meth addict, you can probably pick them out of a crowd pretty easily. The breakouts happen all over the body, not just the face. Try checking around the mouth and arms.

What to Do if My Child is On Meth?

Whatever it takes. That is your kid and it is your job to get them help. They may hate you forever for locking them into rehab. You will just have to deal with that. More than likely, after the initial detox, your child will begin to see you are helping them. I'd say most recovered drug users end up being quite grateful that their families cared enough to seek help. It just takes time and a lot of work to get well.

You must always watch your kids after they are released from rehab. Their time in rehab is your time to find out who, in their circle is using drugs. Prevent these people from contacting your children again.

They are not friends and your kid will do fine without them in their lives. A friend does not get you addicted to meth. A friend that made a mistake, will step back and leave you alone so you can stay meth-free.

More than likely, at least one of these people are legal adults. Do what you can to see they are locked up. It is not your job to seek rehab for them, think about your child now.

An adult that gives drugs to a child is an evil person and they do not deserve to be coddled while a mother's baby lays in a puddle of her/his own vomit. I am harsh as harsh can be when it comes to protecting children. I feel that all children are mine, just as they are yours. We must always protect our babies, even if they are teenagers.

You are the parent, it is your job to take the hardest hit so you can protect your babies.

Though hard to get well, with a supportive family circle and the proper medical and church help, your child can overcome the demon that is meth. Homeschooling your kids can also keep them away from drug dealers. You may be hand-holding until your kids move out on their own as adults. It is your responsibility though.

Good Luck and God Bless!
